In Australia around 373 million plastic water bottles end up as waste each year!

That’s why at THE GOOD HAIR TIE COMPANY we use 100% post consumer Recycled polyester to lessen our dependance on petroleum as a raw material.
We are proudly partnered with Eden Reforestation Projects based in Madagascar where after every sale we make a tree is planted.
Recycling plastics such as plastic bottles stops them piling up in the landfills and overflowing into the ocean.  It takes around 400 years for plastic to break down in water, and even then it becomes micro plastic which harms marine life. Plastics in landfills will take around 1,000 years to decompose. While they decompose, micro-plastics leak into our water supplies and are consumed by humans, wildlife, and more.
Unlike other hair ties out there we craft our Hair Ties from 100% rPET, the added bonus is that it is a super soft fabric too!  Recycled polyester gives a second life to a material that’s not biodegradable and would otherwise end up in landfill or the ocean.
According to the NGO Ocean Conservancy, 8 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean every year, on top of the estimated 150 million metric tons that currently circulate in marine environments. If we keep this pace, by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.
Recycled polyester is almost the same as virgin polyester in terms of quality, but its production requires 59 percent less energy compared to virgin polyester. In addition, recycled polyester can contribute to reduce the extraction of crude oil and natural gas from the earth to make more plastic.
As our mission, we plan to continue developing more sustainable ways to design, create & ship our hair ties and to find ways to off-set our carbon footprint.

Shipping:
We ship internationally with 100% Bio degradable satchels.  These look and feel a bit like plastic, but they’re made from 100% biodegradable and compostable materials. Specifically; corn starch, PLA (made from corn) and PBAT (Polybutyrate Adipate Terephthalate).

These clever satchels have passed Australia’s stringent AS5810 certified home compostable requirements, which includes a worm toxicity test, so they’re even worm farm friendly

In a ‘standard’ home compost, the satchels have been certified (AS5810 -2010) to biodegrade within 180 days, i.e. approx 6 months. Under commercial composting conditions, it would happen much faster. And as litter (e.g. under a tree) it would compost slower, but it will still happen.

Once you have finished with your satchel you can simply take off the shipping label and pop the satchel in with your food scraps. The satchel will biodegrade within 90 days in a regular home composting process. Perfect!
